Did you know that the Greater Philadelphia Region´s Creative Economy generates
$44 billion in revenue annually? While many of us recognize the importance
of creativity, the value of the creative industries has not previously been
recognized as an engine for economic growth in Greater Philadelphia.
The Creative
Economy was first identified as a vibrant industry poised for rapid growth
in the Greater Philadelphia Region in the 2003 study, Connecting
the Greater Philadelphia Innovation Economy: A Road Map for Regional
Growth commissioned
by Innovation Philadelphia, the City of Philadelphia, and the Greater Philadelphia
Chamber of Commerce. An outgrowth of the Road Map was the concept of hosting
a conference where Regional, national, and international creative, business,
and technology leaders could convergence to learn and share best practices
of creative economies throughout the world.
Our objective is for members of
the Creative Community and other stakeholders to begin to look at the Creative
Economy as an important industry that impacts every aspect of the economy.
Therefore, from June 12-14, 2006 entrepreneurs, business leaders, artists,
and technology professionals from for-profit and non-profit organizations will
gather in Greater Philadelphia for the Global Creative Economy Convergence
Summit to exchange ideas and create a framework for understanding how the Creative
Economy contributes to the economic future of the world.
The goals of the Summit
are three-fold: to acquaint Regional, national, and international leaders with
the impact of the for-profit and non-profit sectors of the Creative Economy;
to learn and share best practices how the creative industries interact and
converge to generate wealth and create businesses and jobs within regions;
and to showcase Greater Philadelphia´s creative assets
to attendees coming from across the country and around the globe.
Attendees
will learn and share best practices on how the creative industries interact
and converge to generate wealth and create businesses and jobs within their
communities.
One of the main objectives of the Summit is to connect members
of the Region´s
Creative Community, which is also the purpose of
the Philadelphia Creative Guide. In fact, the Philadelphia
Creative Guide will be highlighted as part of the Creative
Technologies panel
on June 12, 2006.
Highlights of the Summit will include world-renowned
presenters such as Christo and Jeanne-Claude,
Daniel Pink, and John Howkins; Creative Economy thought-leaders from
Greater Philadelphia and large diverse cities including New York, London,
and Los Angeles; representatives from community-based initiatives in
Charles City, Iowa; Lansing, Michigan; and Tampa Bay, Florida; international
presenters and attendees from Hultsfred, Sweden; KwaZulu-Natal, South
Africa; and Castleford, England; and off-site sessions showcasing Philadelphia´s
rich creative landscape and resources.
Summit content will include presentations,
panels, tours, and workshops showcasing an abundance of creativity and the
best Regional, national, and international Creative Economy initiatives. The
Summit will be interactive, engaging, and dynamic with an emphasis on outcomes.
Attendees
will connect and network with individuals, business leaders, and organizations
that are fueling creative growth and will learn new, innovative ways to develop
and enhance their own Creative Economy programs and initiatives.
Join us from
June 12-14, 2006 to "Experience the Impact of Creativity."
