The 48 Hour Film Project :: Philadelphia '06
by Scott Johnston, 3 Apr 2006
The 48 Hour Film Project's mission is to advance filmmaking and promote
filmmakers. Through its festival/competition, the
Project encourages filmmakers and would-be filmmakers
to get out there and make movies. Find out more
information at www.48hourfilm.com.
The 1st year that the 48 Hour Film Project came to town, I was blown
away by Mark Ruppert and Liz Langston's earnestness,
vision and spirit. That night began a relationship
that has continued to grow. To my surprise they
have now, 5 years later, entrusted me with delivering
their creativity-sparking brainchild, and even
made Philly their 1st city, for the 3rd time,
in their, ever-expanding, world tour. That trust
combined with venues International House and Melodyvision
Studios and finally mixed with the ENORMOUS amount
of regional talent, carries a terrific reward.
It puts me in a privileged spot to see it all happen,
and, though it's often frantic, I never wish to
take that kind of magic for granted - it's not
supposed to be. It starts with trust, and gets
maintained by faith. However, it's end result creates
something much larger as a whole. It is my hope
that all those involved in the 48 Hour Film Project
feel as supported in all aspects, as I do with
it's founders. Hey, maybe more, because you guys
bust your asses making it happen, while I, technically
speaking, only produce the event for Philadelphia.

I am blown-away by the measure of
good-will generated by the Filmmakers in this town
as well as the talent and the artists that are
crazy enough to approach the 48 Hour Film Project
and exemplify that quality of heart. Sure we're
rowdy, crusty and cynical and our sports teams
sucketh BUT damn, Philadelphian Filmmakers can
build allies pretty easy and frankly be recognized
just on their conduct. Even better, folks get to
be known just by their craft. It's a SMALL town,
kids! To facilitate anything as creatively-challenging
as the 48 Hour Film Project is a hoot!
I thank
all the teams for bringing their talent to the
table, and, just as important, supporting their
kin! The screenings were the best ever, and everybody
regarded ALL of the films with equal energy!
In fact it couldn't have been better! And the post-party
at N. 3rd was a testament to community mixed with
booze - a great time!
Lets' maintain that sense all year
round and meet up again this time next year - look-out Meatball Posse,
one of us will blink first (LOL).
Seriously GREAT TIMES!!
